USGS Geologic Investigations Series I-2750-A is the digital image basemap for a series (USGS Geologic Investigations Series I-2750 ) designed to present information about infrastructure resources, or other regional spatial information, in a manner that can be understood and appreciated by experts and the public alike. The 3-D image basemap covers much of the northern Front Range urban corridor, including the Denver metropolitan area and the rapidly growing areas in western Adams, western Arapahoe, eastern Boulder, southeastern Larimer, southwestern Weld, northern Douglas, and Jefferson Counties.

These high resolution land use and land cover (LULC) data sets were generated as part of the Land Characterization research activities for the Front Range Infrastructure Resources (FRIR) Project.

The data set covers the project's 45 1:24,000-scale quadrangle demonstration area that covers the Front Range of Colorado south from Ft. Collins to the southern portion of Denver metropolitan area (not including Highlands Ranch, Douglas County); and west from Denver International Airport to the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

The data was generated for 4 time periods: 1930s (source: 1937/1938 aerial photography), 1950s (source: 1953-1958 USGS and USDA aerial photography), 1970s (source: 1975, 1977-1978 USGS and USDA aerial photography), and 1990s (source: 1996/1997 imagery).  The data was collected using a Modified-Anderson Classification (detailed in the metadata files) at a 2.5 acre minimum mapping unit.

The land characterization research activities are part of the USGS Land Cover Characterization Program and the USGS Urban Dynamics Research Program.

These base cartograpic layer  data sets were generated as part of the Land Characterization research activities for the Front Range Infrastructure Resources (FRIR) Project. These data sets form a consistent base layer for the study area.

These base cartographic layers were digitally revised from 1 meter digital imagery and the original Digital Line Graph (DLG) files. The DLG feature attributes were translated into user-friendly data sets. The translated attribution is described below in the Supplemental_Information section of the accompanying metadata files.  The metadata files were compiled by feature overlay.
