Denver Federal Center   1996


Today, the Denver Federal Center houses 28 agencies and 6,800 employees.   It is the largest concentration of Government agencies outside the Washington D.C. area.

Approximately 1,300 employees of the U. S. Geological Survey are based at the Denver Federal Center.   The U. S. Geological Survey is a world leader in the natural sciences through scientific excellence and responsiveness to society's needs.  The USGS serves the Nation by providing reliable scientific information to:

  • describe and understand the Earth;
  • minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters;
  • manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and
  • enhance and protect our quality of life.

  channels have all been changed but
  the pond remains basically the same
  as it did in the 1930s.


    Figure 1.  There is very little open space around the Federal Center. Residential development
      is up against the boundaries of the Hayden/Green Mountain Open Space Park.
